I'm Linh Tran, the co-president of the Health and Wellness Movement. I’m working on my final year at the U of A and hopefully, at the end of the year I’ll be walking away with a bachelors of secondary education with a major in math and minor in human sciences. After being in school for so long and just seeing how it can affects people in different ways, I want to work with HWM in promoting a better, healthier lifestyle for all students. I want to work towards spreading a message towards students that it's okay - maybe even necessary - to take a break from school and that the various events that the club holds are good for the mind, the body and the soul. I am extremely pumped to be a part of the wonderful exec team we have assembled for this year, and even more excited to be a member of this amazing group. I hope to help HWM bring fun times, stress-relieving events and educational opportunities to the University of Alberta campus and its students this year!
Ngan Tran | Co-President
Heyo! I’m Ngan and I am the co-president for the Health and Wellness Movement this year. I am entering my 4th year of university which also equals my 3rd year in the faculty of business, majoring in finance and minoring in operations management. Although it will be by 4th year it is sadly not my last. In addition to being part of HWM, I am also the co-chair for Edge Business Competition this year. I find that people can easily get caught up with their life and forget just how important leading a healthy lifestyle is - not just physical health but also mental health. With everything that life throws at us it can become hard to remember to take care of ourselves which is why I joined HWM - advocating not only for nutritional and physical health but also for mental heal such relaxation, stress relief, and much more. I have always been a very active person, constantly playing sports, some of which include volleyball and rugby, however you can also catch me reading, listening to music, or hanging out with my friends spending some time relaxing and enjoying all of the wonders that the world has to offer. I’m looking forward to seeing some awesome events and meeting new people! If you see me around campus feel free to stop by and say hi!
Bonnie Chiu | VP Relations
Hi everyone! My name is Bonnie Chiu and I’m the VP Relations for HWM. I was in the same position last year and loved the experience, and I am so excited to be returning to the HWM team this year! I am currently in my final year of a BSc in Human Ecology with a major in Family Ecology and a minor in Community Nutrition. Health and wellness has always been my passion, which is why I joined HWM as a volunteer in my first year of university. After experiencing firsthand the struggles of maintaining physical and mental wellness as a university student, I took a more active role in HWM as a project manager and then as part of the exec team. HWM’s mission is one that I really stand behind -- making healthy activities accessible for all students and helping them integrate health-related habits into their daily lives. My hope is that HWM’s activities will help students develop lifelong healthy lifestyles. I’m looking forward to all the new and unique events we’ll bring to campus this year!
Erica Lei | VP Communications
I’m Erica Lei, the VP Communications for HWM. I’m in my 4th year of sciences, majoring in biology and minoring in psychology. Even though I’m in my final year, this is only my 2nd year at the UofA after transferring from Medicine Hat College. In the past few years, I’ve slowly gotten into the habit of eating healthy (though, I do still like my popcorn and ice cream), exercising regularly, as well as using different strategies to help with my mental health, such as journaling or cooking/baking. I’ve noticed the toll that school can have on students - both mentally and physically. From exam stress, to balancing extracurriculars, all while still trying to make time for yourself. It’s because of this that I searched to join a club on campus that really tries to advocate for the students and help them through these obstacles, which is why I joined HWM!
I’m looking forward to bringing HWM events & activities to campus and spread that healthy lifestyle!
Neha Jaswal | VP Marketing
Hey HWMers! My name is Neha Jaswal, I recently completed my BSc in Psychology here at the U of A and am now in open studies before applying to grad school. I have been a part of HWM as a general member, a project manager on Ignite, then Hype for the past three years and the reason I love being apart of HWM is because I found it set itself apart from other clubs by aiming to enhance the campus population’s health without breaking the student bank. It gives so many opportunities for low to no cost which makes our events an amazing way to try new things and meet new people! I'm excited about the outreach we can help create for these events as VP of Marketing this year!
Francisco Rico | VP Finance
What up y'all! My name is Francisco and I am V.P Finance for HWM. I am a 4th year finance student and am excited to try and keep this group monetarily afloat. On my free time I like to try exciting new restaurants around the city and look for cheap flights around the world. I am an avid runner and just recently finished my first (self-created) half marathon. I plan to keep training and finish a full marathon very soon, assuming I can avoid any terrible injuries. Health and wellness is an important part of life to me because I only recently found the right balance. Before my first year of university, I would primarily focus on my grades and social life, neglecting my physical and mental wellbeing. My grades were high and friends loved me but I was always mentally exhausted and extremely out of shape. After a highly hedonistic first year, I realized that I needed to get my health on track. Finding the right balance between health, school, and social life has left proud of myself and ready to take on anything that comes my way in the future. That’s why I am glad to be a part of student run organization which strives to help students fight back against their health negligence by providing tons of fun and affordable activities throughout the year. I am looking forward to seeing everyone that comes to our events and hope everyone has an amazing year!
Kelvin To | VP External
My name is Kelvin and I am the VP External for HWM. I will be entering my 4th year at the U of A, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology. I enjoy playing basketball (poorly) with my friends, video games, cardio, and food (especially ice cream, boba, and milkshakes). These last 3 years have taught me a lot about physical and mental health and how it was worth all the time and effort exerted into maintaining both of them. Specifically, I learned about the dangers of neglecting your own health and how much of a positive impact changes in diet, exercise, mindset, and support groups can have on your life. I joined HWM to try something new and it ultimately became a catalyst for the many healthy choices, newly acquired and refined skills, and new friends I made in the last year. My hope this year is to inspire people, through the numerous activities HWM offers throughout the year, to prioritize investing time and effort towards regulating their mental and physical health.
Florence Liu | VP Operations
Laughter. Yoga. Running. Reading. Travel. These are a few of my favorite things. Who am I? Broad strokes, I am a 3rd year Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology student interested in pursuing a career in Public Health and I am the VP Operations of HWM. Health and wellness has been a long-time passion of mine as I have often seen this aspect of our lives neglected in the pursuit of other goals at work, school, etc. For me, health and wellness is a lifelong and ever changing pursuit that can come easy one day, but be challenging the next. My goal is to make health and wellness an integral part of our lives, allowing us to experience balance, harmony, self-love, and all that fun stuff. As for what I want in life, besides health and wellness, I want to stay curious, motivated, compassionate, and open to different ideas, people, and connections
I hope that you will join me on this journey with HWM and I am excited to see what ideas we will bring to life this year!
